In October 2024, I climbed the highest mountain of Brazil and the sacred place of the Yanomami people: Mount Yaripo. I was led by a group of Yanomami including 3 women: Lucilene (Lu), Marineide (Mari) and Minervina.
Without Lu, Mari and Minervina, I could have never made it to the peak.
The women taught me that no challenge is too big to overcome when you have support.
I learned the importance of living a life rooted in wisdom and ancestral philosophy: with deep respect for the forces of nature.
For that, the Yanomami partners with various organisations, including the women’s association AMYK.

Created in 2015, AMYK's mission is to defend the rights of Yanomami women, represent the Yanomami women of the Cauaburis River and its tributaries, and strengthen the Yanomami handicraft production.
In the expedition, the women are normally given the task of cooking and even though they are not working as guides, they know the trails quite well. In 2015, Maria Yanomami was the first indigenous woman to climb the peak. Maria’s story encouraged me in asking if a woman would be interested in accompanying me during the expedition.
I had the honour to be part of AMYK’s history, when I invited Minervina to join me in the expedition as the first Yanomami woman conductor to climb the Yaripo.
Mari, like me, climbed the summit for the first time. After that, she dreamt of becoming a summit conductor.
The women expressed their opinions and shared their wishes regarding their future in the tourism program.
They said that they need to buy better clothing and gear.
They would also like to learn other languages besides Portuguese, like English and Spanish, so they can better communicate with the tourists.
I spent the entire time with the women: we hiked together, slept in hammocks next to each other, ate together and even bathed together in the rivers. I heard their stories, sang their songs and learned the richness of the region.
I went to the top of Brazil and above the clouds to return with three more friends, with whom I’ve kept in contact and continue to speak until today.

Em outubro de 2024, eu subi a montanha mais alta do Brasil e o lugar sagrado do povo Yanomami: o Monte Yaripo, acompanhade por um grupo de Yanomami, incluindo 3 mulheres: Lucilene (Lu), Marineide (Mari) e Minervina.
Sem Lu, Mari e Minervina, eu nunca teria chegado ao pico.
As mulheres me ensinaram que nenhum desafio é grande demais para ser superado quando você tem apoio.
Com elas eu aprendi a importância de viver uma vida enraizada na sabedoria e na filosofia ancestral: com profundo respeito pelas forças da natureza..

Os fundos serão doados para a AMYK. Criada em 2015, a missão da AMYK é defender os direitos das mulheres Yanomami, representar as mulheres Yanomami do Rio Cauaburis e seus afluentes e fortalecer a produção de artesanato Yanomami.
Durante a expedição, as mulheres normalmente recebem a tarefa de cozinhar e, embora não trabalhem como guias, conhecem bem as trilhas.
Em 2015, Maria Yanomami foi a primeira mulher indígena a subir o pico. A história de Maria me motivou a perguntar a AMYK se uma mulher estaria interessada em me acompanhar durante a expedição.
Eu tive a honra de fazer parte da história da AMYK, quando Minervina me acompanhou durante a expedição como a primeira mulher Yanomami a subir o Yaripo. Mari, como eu, escalou o cume pela primeira vez. Depois disso, ela sonhou em se tornar uma condutora de cume.
As mulheres expressaram suas opiniões e compartilharam seus desejos em relação ao futuro no programa de turismo. Elas disseram que precisam comprar roupas e equipamentos melhores. Elas também gostariam de aprender outras línguas além do português, como inglês e espanhol, para poderem se comunicar melhor com os turistas.
Durante a expedição eu passei o tempo todo com as mulheres: caminhamos juntas, dormimos em redes uma ao lado da outra, comemos juntas e até tomamos banho juntas nos rios. Ouvi suas histórias, cantei suas músicas e aprendi a riqueza da região.
Fui ao topo do Brasil e acima das nuvens para retornar com mais três amigas, com quem mantive contato e continuo falando até hoje.
